Took a trip to Iowa to visit family. On our way back home, we stopped by the Nebraska town where my father-in-law was born.

While researching my husband’s surname, I found that Raeville, Boone County, Nebraska, was founded by two brothers with the surname of RAE…hence the name RAEVILLE. Further research uncovered that the brothers put the word out about how beautiful the area was and that others should come. Well, the first settlers in the area were HENN & OTTELLE. Long story short, my husband’s great, great, grandparents were THE first settlers to come. The came all the way from Dubuque, Iowa. Their story revolves around Germans to America, Catholicism & Saint Bonaventure Catholic Church.

So, we stopped at three different cemeteries to photograph family headstones. Tho the weather was not the best, the day was an absolute blast. Hubby had no choice but to listen to what I had found out about his family, lol. Having him walk thru each of the three cemeteries with me is one neither of us will forget. He never realized that there were so many Henn’s in that area.

More on the Henn’s to come…
